Saturday, September 23
By now, we were traveling south towards Nashville for Monday the 25th. Gray day today, good day to get some mileage in. Enjoyed the countryside of Indiana, corn and soy predominantly. Found another Wal-Mart to spend the night!
Sunday, September 24
Kentucky today. Hwy 135
curves left and right and rises and falls through the countryside. Picture
is of a barn drying tobacco. Enjoyed
Abraham Lincoln's birthplace, a National monument, with park and good video.
In the last two days, we have seen evidence of a lot of rain, with large ponds
where they shouldn't be, and even submerged cornfields. In one place, we
saw a house "stranded" because of a new pond where the driveway used to be
between it and the highway.
Since we hadn't stopped at a
campground for a few days to shower, it was time to find one, and we selected
the Barren River Reservoir Corps of Engineers Recreation area. What a
great area! With our Geezer pass, we were in for $10. We enjoyed
talking with another couple our age, just retired and just getting the feel for
camping out on a more regular basis. Of course, there were hot dogs then
marshmallows on the wood fire.
Just missed it!
Monday, September 25
Made our way down 31E to Gallatin in Tennessee, where we stopped for a Goodwill Superstore. Found they were having a great sale: about 20 racks of clothes marked down at $5 for 10 items. We got a bagful. Got to Fiona's place about 1 pm.
Tuesday, September 26
Day
with Fiona in Nashville. Here's a picture of Fiona with her two dogs,
Sadie (on ground) and Suki (in lap).
Also, another picture of her home that she shares with Sandy.
Wednesday, September 27
Made
our way through Clarksville, then further west to Land between the Lakes where
we spent the evening.
Beautiful lakes....
Thursday, September 28
Further
west to Mountain Home, Arkansas. Stayed at the Henderson Corps of
Engineers campground.
Friday, September 29 and Saturday, September 30
Lawton, Oklahoma at Fort Sill with our other daughter Aimee and her husband Gary.
Sunday, October 1
Made
it HOME!
Well, this trip was not as long as our trip last year to Alaska, but just as much fun. See you on our next trip!
