Monday, July 27 - Nymph, Dream, Emerald and Bear Lakes

We took the bus up to bear Lake trailhead, and hiked to the four lakes.

That's us with camera, binoculars and GPS.

We first took the trail to Nymph, Dream and Emerald lakes, then came back to hike around Bear lake. About 4 1/2 miles total.

Here are the lakes:

On the way, we saw much of other sites as well:

This shows what they had to do with the dead campground trees so they wouldn't fall on campers.  See the tree on the right - the bark beetles create these pitch spots where they enter the trunk. 

While the campgrounds are deserted because of the logging activity, the Forest Service is contracting to build new comfort stations.
