Wednesday, August 27

Taking Jim's advice, our next stop was south on US 84 to New Mexico and south to Abiquiu Reservoir, a Corps of Engineers campground.  on the way to the campsite, we passed these red rock formations near Ghost Ranch.

Talking with a couple of men working on a stone wall, we were told that the best green chile was in a town called El Rito at a small family-run restaurant called Farolito.  To get there, we had to go south on 84 for about 12 miles then north on CO 544 about 11 miles.  It was worth the trip.

Here is a picture of the restaurant.

We were treated to this sunset at the end of the day.

Thursday, August 28

We met these nice people yesterday, Ron and Dorothy Boothe, from Arizona.  They were staying in their motor home next to our campsite, and we decided to take a trip together today.  We set up a county road 151 along the Chama River up to a monastery, Christ of the Desert.  This part of the river is used by canoes and kayaks in the spring when the water is running.

Here are some of the things we saw on  the trip:

The Chama river...quiet now.

Lots of blue sky.

The monastery and a flower in the prayer garden.

On the way home, we finally got some cloud.

Later, we joined them in their motor home, where we were treated with Dorothy playing her Yamaha 3000 keyboard, and Ron singing.  A good time with new friends.
