Friday, August 29

Packed up, and left for Bandelier National Monument.  South on 84, right on 30, west on 512, south on 4.  We spent the Afternoon in Los Alamos, went to the Museum there which told the story of the atomic bomb work during in the 1940's. On the way back, we stopped at the overlook in White Rock.  Here is some of what we saw at the overlook.

Saturday, August 30

Early in the am, we drove to Santa Fe, where we had breakfast at Tresorio Restaurant (green chile of course) in the Sanbusco market center.  We found the crafts show in the Plaza, then the Farmer's market off the old Santa Fe Trail, then drove up Canyon road to the Audubon Center.

The house...

and, birds, of course...

On the way back to Bandelier, we stopped at the flea market a few miles north of Santa Fe. Indian fry bread and green chile stew.  If that wasn't enough for one day, when we returned, we went to the Visitor Center and then walked the trail to see the cliff dwellings.

The buildings at Bandelier were built by the CCC in 1933, and all are still functional.

Here are Ed and Patty climbing into the dwellings.

It was a nice late afternoon to do this.

We were impressed by the petroglyphs.

A bat cave, as well as a caution sign...
